Cabin #4

Grasshopper Cabin

Cabin #4, and much like its neighbours — which is rather the point. Take whichever is open.

Inside: a queen and two bunk beds, so four sleep comfortably. A kitchenette with a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker, and plates, bowls, cups and wine glasses already in the cupboard. Starlink runs the whole property, so the wi-fi holds even this far up the valley.

From the Grasshopper's door you look east to the Absaroka Range. The sun comes up right over the peaks, and the afternoon brings shade out front for reading or a nap. It's a quiet place to end the day, too, as the light fades off the mountains.

A grasshopper, the insect Grasshopper Cabin is named for
The fly it's named for

The hopper

Grasshoppers aren't water insects at all, but from midsummer on they get blown into the river from the fields and banks, and the trout notice. Hopper season on the Yellowstone usually runs from late July through September, and it's some of the most fun fishing of the year: big foam flies cast tight to the bank. Cabin #4 is named for it.
